Will Ackerman, a Califoria carpenter and guitarist, founded Windham Hill Records in the late 1970s and pioneered what would become the New Age Music category with spare, resonant acoustic pieces that were exceptionally well recorded. After discovering and producing the music of such noteworthy artists as George Winston, Michael Hedges, Alex de Grassi, Shadowfax, and Liz Story, he sold his interest in Windham Hill in 1992, and retired to rural Vermont.
After a period of exploration and reinvention, Will Ackerman built a recording studio on the grounds of his gardened rural compound and quickly began recording some of the best acoustic music sounds ever captured. Along with his recording engineer Corin Nelsen, he won a Grammy Award for his 2004 release "Returning."
